This self-guided tour focuses on re-use, and includes: Dam Site housing trucked to T or C in the Depression Era (1919); hand-built adobes in the predominantly hispanic community of La Vista; fabulous restorations of commercial bath houses, and a tour of Green Acre, the newest permutation in T or C’s recycling history. 2007 SAFARI OF PAINTED ELEPHANTS & TURTLES @ Geronimo Springs Museum

The Museum is a major repository for Sierra County History, both in artifacts and in archival materials. Each of four Elephants and Turtles creatively hand-painted by an artist from New Mexico will be on display. Tickets to win are $10 each. All proceeds go toward the Geronimo Springs Museum Roofing Fund. The drawing will be held in late February, 2008 at the Annual Historical Society Dinner. Music by world renowned Bayou Seco; includes lunch. Ken Keppeler and Jeanie McLerie from Silver City, NM are masters at cross-cultural music of the Southwest. They play a very unique Chilegumbo, multilingual, true community music. Attendees should dress warmly, bring a chair to sit on and an umbrella to shade the great Southwest Sun. You probably won't be sitting still for long as the music will draw you to stomping before long. Food and drinks are included in the price; the menu is to be determined - but you won't be disappointed! Call for more information and reservations.
